Introduction to Implicit Bias Event Flyer

Purpose

This interactive session, which is co-sponsored by the Office for Inclusion and Intercultural Initiatives and the Office of the Provost, will introduce youth program directors and coordinators to the universal phenomenon of implicit bias: what it is, why it happens, how it happens, and when it is most likely to happen. Participants will also explore their own implicit bias and how it impacts the ways in which they interact with others and consider some of the ways to reduce the incidence of bias in their daily lives.

Outcomes

At the close of this program, participants will be able to:

  • Define implicit bias
  • Identify why implicit bias happens
  • Identify how implicit bias occurs
  • Identify when implicit bias is most likely to occur
  • Explore their own implicit bias
  • Explore how implicit bias impacts interactions with others
  • Consider strategies for reducing implicit bias
